Shisha Instructions - From assembly to the first puff

For shisha beginners, it's often not easy to properly set up and use their own shisha. This guide will show you step by step how to properly set up and prepare your shisha, and how to smoke it for the first time. This applies regardless of whether you use a Kaya , Aladin , or Amy shisha, as the basic structure remains the same. Here's an overview of the important components of a typical shisha:

The Bowl (glass bottle)

The bowl is the bottom part of the hookah and serves as a container for the water. It is also called a bottle or glass . It is responsible for drawing the smoke through the water, which cools and filters it. Make sure the bowl is stable and free of cracks or holes.

The column of smoke

The smoke column (or shaft , tower or turret ) is the central element of the hookah. It connects the bowl to the tobacco head and guides the smoke from the head through the water. An important detail is the immersion tube (also known as the water pipe ), which dips into the water and guides the smoke into the bowl. The base is the middle part of the smoke column, to which the hose connections (usually several) are attached. In some hookahs, the smoke column can be disassembled into several parts, in others it is permanently installed.

The tobacco head (clay head, head, head)

The tobacco bowl is the part of the shisha where the tobacco is placed. It is usually made of clay , which ensures even heat distribution. The bowl has a central channel through which the smoke flows through the smoke column into the bowl. When assembling the bowl, you should make sure to pack the tobacco loosely and not too tightly to allow for good airflow.

The hose

The hose is the part of the hookah through which you inhale the smoke. It is connected to a hose connector on the smoke column. Depending on the model, the hose can be made of different materials, such as silicone or PVC . Make sure the hose fits snugly around the smoke column to avoid air leaks.

Step-by-step instructions for setting up the shisha

  1. Prepare the bowl:

    • Fill the bowl with water so that the dip tube is fully submerged, but not too much water. About 1-2 cm above the end of the dip tube is ideal.
  2. Attaching the smoke column:

    • Carefully screw the smoke column onto the bowl. Make sure it's firmly in place, but not too tightly, to avoid cracking the glass.
  3. Prepare the tobacco head:

    • Place the tobacco loosely into the bowl. Avoid packing it too tightly, as this will restrict airflow. Place the bowl on the smoke column and make sure it stays in place.
  4. Connect the hose:

    • Attach the hose to the designated connector on the smoke column. Check that it fits snugly and that no air can escape.
  5. Apply aluminum foil:

    • If you're using a shisha with aluminum foil, stretch the aluminum foil over the tobacco bowl and poke small holes in it with a needle. These holes allow airflow to pass through the tobacco.

The first move

Now the shisha is ready for the first hit! Carefully light the tobacco with a shisha torch or tongs and begin to draw slowly. Once properly heated, you should smell the smoke pleasantly cool and flavorful.

Tip: Be careful not to draw too quickly, as this can negatively affect the flavor. A slow, steady draw provides the best enjoyment!

With this guide, you'll be perfectly prepared to properly set up your shisha and smoke for the first time. Have fun relaxing and enjoying!
