What is a carb cap?
A carb cap (also called a dome) is a small but important accessory for dabbing – the vaporization of cannabis concentrates such as wax, budder, or oil. It is placed over the hot banger or oil nail after the concentrate has been applied and plays several roles.
What is a carb cap used for?
- Splash guard
The carb cap acts as a kind of lid that holds back oil splashes and thus protects the environment (and you!). - Controlled air supply
It reduces the supply of oxygen, which lowers the pressure in the banger and makes the evaporation temperature more efficient. - Increased smoke formation
Less air supply means denser clouds of vapor with gentler heating – ideal for full flavor and a gentle hit. - More efficient use of the concentrate
The cap keeps the heat in the banger longer, and the concentrate evaporates more evenly and completely.
Types of Carb Caps
There are different versions – depending on the dab rig and personal preference:
- Classic Carb Cap (Dome) – round, closed, with air hole
- Directional Carb Cap – with opening for targeted airflow in the banger
- Bubble Cap – round, flexible, especially good in combination with banger beads
- Spinner Cap – creates swirls, ideal for spinning terp pearls
